When tough times hit scriptures on comfort can be a lifeline. We all face seriously challenging things in life. Whatever it is you’re up against now, know that God is with you and for you. His love for you is never-ending!
We’ve pulled together a selection of scriptures that focus on comfort for you to turn to when you need them most.
These are passages like the famous chapter 23 in the book of Psalms:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Just as this chapter says, God is our shepherd. That means He watches over us night and day. He is with us and He brings us to rest and refreshment when we need it, and He comforts us.
Walking through the valley is never easy, but filling your mind with scriptural truths and promises will remind you of the sweetness of God’s love and mercy. And, the eternal hope in heaven we have.
There’s nothing quite like the pain of losing a loved one. In those moments the Bible can provide some much needed comfort and peace.
Grief can be overwhelming and finding comfort may seem impossible. However, the Bible is a great source of strength and hope during these difficult times. Here are a few comforting Bible verses for those who are grieving:
1. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
This verse is a reminder that even though we may feel alone in our grief, God is always with us. He sees our pain and will help us through it.
2. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." - Revelation 21:4
This verse assures us that in the end, there will be no more sorrow or pain. We can find peace in knowing that our future is one filled with joy and abundant life.
3. "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." - Psalm 55:22
This verse reminds us that we are not alone in our grief. God promises to comfort us and be with us during this difficult time.
One of the traps we all fall into, when trying to stay positive, is to think that we have to do it alone, through our own strength.
Positive thinking alone cannot pull you through the hardest moments of life. When grief, loss and heartbreak hit, positive thoughts can crumble away like a pack of cards.
The Bible verses on comfort are brilliant for bringing encouragement when you need it. But, the way to stay positive is to find God’s perspective and make it your own.
John 3: 31 says: “The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.”
God’s perspective on our lives, and the hard things we face, is often completely different to ours. When you catch a glimpse of the good He is working through your pain, or how His plan for your life will redeem every hard moment, it’s easy to move forward with joy and positivity.
It’s handy to have a list of scriptures on comfort to use when you’re praying. It can be tempting to pull away from God when you’re going through hard times, our pain can make us feel alone. But, there is no better time to seek out God and open your heart to him than when you’re hurting. In these moments we get to experience what a good Father He really is.
Use these Bible verses during your quiet times with God and let them inspire you to dig deeper into all He has for you.
1. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13
This verse reminds us that we have the strength and ability to overcome any obstacle with the help of Christ. It's a great reminder that we don't have to face our struggles alone.
2. "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me." - Psalm 28:7
This verse reminds us that we can trust in God to give us the strength we need to get through tough times. He is our shield, protecting us from harm and guiding us towards the light.
3. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." - Philippians 4:6
This verse encourages us to bring our worries and concerns to God in prayer. By doing so, we can find peace in the midst of our anxieties and trust that He will take care of us.
4. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10
As the many scriptures on comfort demonstrate, God is more than able to be with us in our pain. Even better, He wants nothing more than to walk with us through every season of our life. And, He brings His immense peace to us, no matter how tough things are.
Think about Job and how, despite his life being absolutely destroyed and all his loved ones lost, he still managed to stay true to his faith. But, he didn’t do it without expressing his pain to God!
Don’t hide your pain and fears from God, He is the safest person in the world to take them to.
