You are the most influential person in your life. No one talks to you more than you do. Yet, many of us struggle negative self talk and critical thoughts. So just imagine if your internal narrative matched up with what the word of God says about you? In this blog we'll learn how to meditate on the Bible and change your mind one thought at a time.
Scripture and science both agree that it is possible to change the way we think. To a large extent, we change our internal narrative.
Philippians 4:8 reminds us to chose wisely when it comes to our thoughts:
"...whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableâif anything is excellent or praiseworthyâthink about such things."
And thanks to the God-given gift of neuroplasticity, our brains are able to absorb and assimilate new ways of thinking at any stage of life. We can change our thinking and behaviour into our old age. So matter what your thoughts have been until today, you can choose to think differently, right now. You are no longer prisoner to your recurring thoughts or process, you have the biological ability and spiritual authority to change them. This is great news!
As we deliberately meditate on biblical truths, something powerful begins happen in our brains.
Our thought patterns and processes begin to rewire themselves.
This concept is found throughout the Bible. In Romans 12:2, Acts 11:18 and Acts 5:31.
It is contained in the greek word metanoia and is where we get the word metamorphosis from. Metanoia literally means to change our mind, to turn to a different way of thinking.
We can literally be "transformed by the renewing of our minds" by thinking about good and helpful things. We change the way we think by changing what we think about.
And when we begin to think differently, we will eventually begin behave differently too.
Here are 5 good and helpful verses to meditate on today: Mark 10:27 âJesus looked at them and said, âWith man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.ââ Philippians 1:6 ââŠbeing confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.â Psalm 37:23-24 âThe LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.â Philippians 3:13-14 âForgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.â Romans 12:2 âDo not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Godâs will is â his good, pleasing and perfect will
Today, take a moment now to be still and ask God to highlight any thoughts that He would like to transform.
Ask Him to transform them into hopeful, life-giving thoughts now.
