Here are 9 Proverbs for daily life to help you today. The Bible's book of Proverbs was intended to provide you with godly wisdom, guidance, and insight. As well as to teach you discipline, good behavior, and how to do what is right and just in life. However, you are not alone if you have noticed a gap between what a proverb is stating and how to apply it practically. Below is a look at 9 proverbs for daily life and how to apply them. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5
Have you ever been in a position where you felt God was expecting too much of you? Something challenging, like forgiving someone who has wounded you and isn't sorry, honoring your parents who weren't there for you, or loving your spouse who isn't living up to your expectations? Instead of viewing our position as an exception, we can endeavour to follow His ways, trusting His faithfulness to guide us in the correct course. When we do this, we know that He will protect and take care of us in the situation and have faith that following God's instructions will enrich our lives.
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” Proverbs 3:27
Doing Good To Others
Do you frequently consider doing something helpful for someone but then talk yourself out of it or let others persuade you otherwise? Perhaps it's a generous act, a kind word, or a way to assist or serve another person. If this is the case, you may be withholding good from those around you. When faced with the desire to give, we can reject the temptation to withhold our generosity. Instead, we can choose to be like God, who does not withhold anything good from those who walk uprightly. Recognize that our unwillingness to contribute to others may be preventing others from giving to us. Today, we can decide to be a giver when we have the opportunity.
An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. Proverbs 12:17
There has recently been a lot of talk about being an honest witness. Proverbs emphasizes the need of being genuine while speaking about others, highlighting the importance of telling the truth in daily life. Have you ever been tempted to lie because you are afraid of the consequences of being truthful? Or have you ever uttered half-truths because it benefited you? If so, keep this saying in mind. The value of stating the truth is dwindling in today's culture. The level of lying and pointing fingers at one another is at an all-time high. We must recognize that God is serious about us being truthful about others.
Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Proverbs 13:3
Have you ever said anything thoughtless or careless that you wish you could take back? Words you said under duress or in a heated exchange that you now sincerely regret? If so, you understand that the adage "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is untrue. This is because words may irreparably harm relationships, create a great deal of anguish and pain and last a lifetime.
In these days of "speak whatever comes to mind," let's ask God to guard our mouth and keep an eye on the door of our lips. Let's decide to choose our words carefully, understanding that they will have a long-lasting impact.
A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. Proverbs 18:16
Climbing the ladder of success may be daunting, demoralizing, and exhausting in a culture where people compete for the spotlight and trample over others to reach their goals. Instead, Scripture urges us to trust God to open doors for us based on the gifts and talents He has bestowed upon us. Then, we can choose to believe that He will carry out His intentions and will in our lives.
So, instead of focusing all of our energies on worldly successes, accolades and awards that will fade in time. Jesus tells us not to be concerned about these things but instead to seek His kingdom. So, rather than following the world's recipe for success, let's put our trust in God to find a way for us and to give us favor.
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and He will avenge you. Proverbs 20:22
It is normal to want to repay the individual or group who has wronged you when you are offended in life. However, God instructs us not to pursue vengeance.
Rather than seeking our own vengeance in situations, let's choose to believe that God will take care of every wrong one day. We can do this because we know that He is the source of justice and righteousness on the planet.
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
Suppose you believe that you must allow your children to work things out for themselves in life without your guidance or input. In that case, you are preparing them for a lifetime of confusion. Many people want to influence and lead your children wrongly if you don't teach them the right path.
What you educate your children in as they grow up will impact them for the rest of their lives. Knowing this, God encourages us to raise our children in His ways for their benefit and ours. If we are faithful in teaching our children about God, even if they move away from Him as they get older, God assures us that they will remember what we have taught them.
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 23:17
Heroes And Role Models
It's easy to become engrossed in the latest trends. We can end up looking to celebrities as role models and sources of inspiration. However, it's a good idea to look at their life to evaluate the concepts you're allowing to inspire you. When in question about what your modern-day hero is advocating, consult Scripture to see what God says about the activity or ideology they are promoting. Let's make God's Word our primary influencer in life, rather than the world's ever-changing ideas.
Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully. Proverbs 28:5
Making Good Choices
It only takes a few moments watching the news channel to know that there is something wrong with our world. The choices that people make can cause us pain and confusion, not just personally but globally. Yet the Bible helps us to frame the world from Gods perfect perspective. When we live our lives in the power of the Holy Spirit and with the truth of Gods Word, we will become people who demonstrate Gods great love and forgiveness to those around us. As people who chose to follow God, we can share the love and wisdom of Jesus with our enemies and pray for them too. Doing this can help them enter into a relationship with God, where their hearts and minds might be transformed to recognize what is Gods best for them. Why not download the Glorify App for more helpful devotional content.
