If you need prayer for protection at night, this blog can help you. Sleep is an important part of daily life, but it can often be difficult. The Bible gives us a lot of assurances about sleep. We wrote about this and compiled some great verses in this blog. God promises that He will protect us at numerous points in Scripture. This should help us have a peaceful nightâs sleep. However, we know people are in a wide variety of difficult situations.
Not feeling safe in your own home or being in the midst of conflict or chaos is going to make it difficult to sleep. Some people worry about their safety because of events that have happened in their past. Sometimes our sleep is disturbed because of a difficult situation, which we canât control, that will be waiting for us in the morning. Whatever your situation, Godâs presence is with you and prayer can help you get into a better frame of mind for sleep. Try some of the bedtime prayers for protection below.
Scripture is full of verses that can comfort us before we go to sleep. For example, the declaration in Psalm 4:8 that âI will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safetyâ or the promise that âwhen you lie down, you will not be afraidâ (Prov. 3:24) . These are comforting declarations from men of God who believed in the protection of their Lord. The Psalms have much to say about protection and sleep. Psalm 91:2 says that God is âmy refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trustâ. Wow. A refuge and fortress. There is no greater protection than that. Psalm 46:1-2 says something similar, calling God âour refuge and strength, an ever-present help in troubleâ. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 explicitly states that God will âstrengthen you and protect you from the evil oneâ. Whatever life may throw at us, or whatever the enemy means for harm, God promises to use ultimately for our good. We also know that âthe Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake youâ (Deut. 31:6). God says in Isaiah 41:10, âSo do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your Godâ. Thatâs not to say we wonât experience trouble or danger. The Bible makes no promises of a pain free life and many Bible characters go through periods of suffering, fear and loss. We will experience these things. But it is a great comfort that our God will be with us through them all and that one day there will be no more pain and suffering. We will be safe in the constant loving protection of the Father. That is the greatest promise of all.
âLord, be with me now. Wrap Your loving arms around me and keep me safe. I am desperate for Your protection. I want to know Your presence so strongly. Your sweet presence that comforts me and gives me peace. As I lie down would I know You are there and then would You give me rest. Give me full and complete sleep tonight.Where there is actual danger, Lord, keep me safe. Where there is worry and concern, would I be able to cast all my anxiety on to you.In Psalm 140:4, You say You will âKeep me safe from the hands of the wickedâ. God, please do that tonight. Those that seek to hurt me, to disparage my name, to bully me and assault me, God, thwart their plans. Where âthe peoples plot in vain⊠and the rulers band together against the Lord and against His anointedâ, Psalm 2 says that you âscoffâ and ârebukeâ them. Thank You that You are my protector. Oh, faithful one. Unchanging God. Mighty God. Be with me, now and always. Amen.â
âMerciful Father, as we go to sleep, help us to rest. Protect us from the enemy and all those that would do us harm. In this time be near. Lord, we ask that we feel Your supernatural presence and know that You are with us. God, protect my family and loved ones. As they sleep, would they be safe. If they are far from me, would you watch over them. I pray that they would return safely to me. I pray that they would be safe in an unfamiliar place and sleep in an unfamiliar bed. When weâre on holiday or members of my family are on holiday, God would you keep us safe. Protect us and give us peace. Let us know Your presence as we enjoy each otherâs company and have a restful, joyful time.â
âDear God, I come before You now with a plea to take away my worry and anxiety. I pray that I would be able to rest and sleep peacefully without being kept up by my thoughts. Thank You, Lord, for Your word, I hold on to Your promises: âDo not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.â (Phil 4:6-7) This is a great comfort to me now. I pray that my heart and mind would be guarded by the hope and certainty I have in You. When everything around me is uncertain and out of my control, I know that You are with me, wherever I am. I know that I have an eternal, ever-present Father who loves me and has a plan for my life. Help me cling on to that tonight as I drift into a peaceful and restful sleep. Amen.â If you would like more devotionals or prayers related to sleep, the Glorify app has a great selection for you to try. Photo by Vincentiu Solomon on Unsplash
