Prayers For Peace To Bring Comfort And Hope

Prayers For Peace To Bring Comfort And Hope

History is marked by conflict. War after war has shaped how our world has developed and today is no different.

As Christians, who love and believe in a Prince of Peace, how do we respond to such difficult times?

The answer is, with prayer.

Here you’ll find a collection of prayers for peace. Some will bring you comfort, others hope. Some are written so you can pray for peace to reign on earth at last.

We believe in a Kingdom of Heaven where all wars have ceased and where every day will be one of peace and joy. As we pray for this world today we can do so with the hope of the coming kingdom in our hearts. Our prayers can be for the culture of a heavenly kingdom of peace to invade today.

Prayers For Peace To Bring Comfort And Hope

Prayers For Peace To Bring Hope

“Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right.

May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.

We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence, a new world where fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice, nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.

Help us to devote our whole life and thought and energy to the task of making peace, praying always for the inspiration and the power to fulfil the destiny for which we and all men were created.” Woman's Day

Prayers Of Comfort

"O blessed Jesus, give me stillness of soul in You. Let your mighty calmness reign in me. Rule me, O King of Gentleness, King of Peace." Saint John of the Cross

“God, my heart is filled with chaos and confusion. I feel as if I am drowning in my circumstances and my heart is filled with fear and confusion. I really need the strength and peace that only You can give. Right now, I choose to rest in You.” Mary Southerland

“O God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference; living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.” Reinhold Niebuhr

“Lord, when my heart is overwhelmed, overwhelm me with Your peace. Lead me to You, my rock. Guide me to Your word which gives me strength and refuge. Help me not to run to lesser things. Draw me to run to You first. Help me get into the habit of taking my “overwhelmed” and placing it under your will. Thank You, Lord.” Lysa Terkeurst

Prayers For World Peace

“Almighty God, you are the only source of health and healing. In You there is calm, and the only true peace in the universe. Grant to each one of us Your children an awareness of Your presence, and give us perfect confidence in You. In all pain and weariness and anxiety teach us to yield ourselves to Your never-failing care, knowing that Your love and power surround us, trusting in Your wisdom and providence to give us health and strength and peace when Your time is best; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” The Nazarene, Vols. 7-9, 1922

A Prayer For Ukraine

“Father God, King of all nations, we cry out to You now for the people of Ukraine. We ask You to rescue those who are vulnerable from the hands of their enemies that they may live without fear before You all their days [Luke 1:74-75].

Kyrie eleison – Lord have mercy.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

You Lord, make wars cease to the end of the earth; You break bows, shatter spears, and burn shields with fire [Psalm 46:9]. And so we ask You now to save the lives of many people in Ukraine. Make a peace that is strong and not weak. De-escalate this crisis. We hear of wars and rumours of wars (Matt. 24:6], but You Lord are our rock, our fortress and our deliverer. Our hope is in You.

And so we address the nations now. In the name of Jesus we say: “Be still and know God! He is exalted among the nations; He shall be exalted in the earth [Psalm 46:10].

Kyrie eleison – Lord have mercy.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.” 24-7 Prayer

Craft Your Own Unique Prayer

One of the most powerful things about prayer is that it’s a personal language between us and God. In fearful and difficult times, with wars breaking out, a conversation with God can be the most comforting thing.

Try finding a quiet place, or perhaps using your time as you commute, to speak aloud a personal prayer to God. Tell Him your fears and declare your hopes. Ask for His healing and peace to invade our world now, in words that feel natural to you.

God doesn’t need our prayers in order to move, but He chooses to partner with us. In good times and bad.

So, ask God, how can I partner with You to help establish Your kingdom of peace on this earth now?
