I wonder if you have ever truly reflected on the amazing promise that God has a plan for your life? For many people, the idea that God has a plan for them can be difficult to accept. Whether it be the voice of discouragement, the reality of current circumstances, or a fear of the future, we can all too easily be held back from fully stepping into the plan that God has for us. The Bible can help us with this. In the Scriptures there are a number of verses that can remind us to step into the plan that God has for our lives. But often the first step to our acceptance of God's plan is fighting our fear of the future.
There are all kinds of fears that can confront us in life, from seemingly small fears to overwhelming fears that can have a big impact on our lives. One of the most common fears that people have is the fear of the future. This is a fear which is likely to confront all of us at some point in our lives. A recent study concluded that approximately 75% of young people aged 16-25 are fearful of the future. But this uncertainty about the future is something that can affect everyone, whether young or old. The uncertainty of what is ahead and the unpredictability of the twists and turns of life can contribute to this feeling of fear. While the fear of the future can be challenging and, at times, somewhat paralysing, the Bible gives us some comforting promises that can help us to remember that God has a plan for our lives. These promises can help us to fight our fears. As a result, we can walk into all thatâs ahead of us with confidence and hope. For even though we donât know what the future holds, we do know who holds it. God is waiting in our future, inviting us to walk closer to Him, promising us that our future is in His hands, that it is secure and that it is good. Here are three promises from Scripture that can help you whenever you encounter fear of the future.
1 Peter 1:3-4 says: âPraise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.â Here in 1 Peter we learn that God has stored up for us an eternal inheritance which can never perish nor fade. This is an amazing promise that reminds us of the eternal nature of our future. We are promised eternal life with God. Like an earthly inheritance which is stored securely until the time is right, our heavenly inheritance is awaiting us, protected by God and held by Him. Because of this, the eternal inheritance gives us a new life of living hope, rooted in the mercy of God, which will go on for all eternity. What an amazing promise of the faithfulness of God. These verses in 1 Peter should comfort you and remind you that God has your future in His hands. Remind yourself today that there is nothing that can take away the inheritance that God has for you. God is in control. He is holding your past, your present and your future. So, why not commit to trust Him again today and commit your future into His hands.

Philippians 1:6 says: âBeing confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.â I donât know what words you would choose to describe your outlook on the future but I wonder if âconfidentâ would be at the top of your list? Sometimes it can be all too easy to look ahead to the future with uncertainty and caution. But, in this verse in Philippians, Paul encourages us to be âconfidentâ about our future. He encourages us to remember that God promises to bring us to a place of completion in Christ Jesus. While the exact twists and turns of the journey ahead are unclear, this verse in Philippians is a great reminder that your future is secure. Even when the road ahead looks uncertain, God promises to go ahead of you and to walk with you until the end. The destination of your life is not left up to chance, and God assures you today that He is walking with you at all times. Because of this assurance you can know that He is leading you to a firm and secure destination.
Romans 8:28 says: âAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.â While it can be helpful to know that your future is secure and that it is in Godâs hands, it is also comforting to know that the future that God has in store for you is also good. God desires good things for your life. Here in Romans 8, He promises that He works out all things for good. That means that He is working in the good times and the bad, in the mountaintops and the valleys. You can walk into the future with your head held high, full of confidence, assurance and hope. You can know that your future is going to be good. We all have moments when we feel tempted to look ahead to our future with eyes of scepticism or uncertainty. When you find yourself in those moments, remind yourself that God has good things in store for you. He has a great plan for your life, and He promises to work all situations out for your good. This doesnât mean that nothing will ever go wrong, but it does mean that God is in control. In the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, God is in control. He is always working to draw you closer to Him. God has a great plan for your life and your future is secure in Him. He has good things in store for you and He promises to walk with you through every season of life. Through the promises of Scripture you can smile at the future and look ahead with hope and joy. You can truly know that your ultimate destination is an eternity with God.
