Bible Verses To Read Before A Trip

Reading a few Bible verses that remind you of God’s protection is a great way to start preparing for a trip.

In both 2 Samuel and in the Psalms, David describes how God protects and watches over us. Try meditating on these two excerpts from scripture. You could even copy them into your travel journal, or highlight them on your Glorify App, so that you’re reminded of them while you’re away.

My Rock And My Fortress

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior.” 2 Samuel 22:3

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 121

A Prayer For Safe Travel On Long Trips

“Jesus, mighty protector, I know You watch over my comings and goings.

Thank You for being my rock and refuge, my safe place and my comforter.

I ask You to be with me in every moment of my approaching trip. Please watch over every detail and help everything run smoothly.

Please be my comforter in moments of home sickness, my security in moments of stress and my companion in moments of joy.

I ask you, Father God, to bring me safely back home at the end of the trip to be reunited with my loved ones.

Amen”

A Prayer For Safe Travel Day To Day

“Dear God, I ask you to watch over mine and my family's travels today.

As we travel between all of our destinations I ask for you to keep us safe.

From navigating around busy streets and finding parking to staying alert as we drive, I ask for your protection over us all.

Amen”

A Simple Vacation Prayer

Staying connected to God while you travel can make a huge difference to how much you enjoy your time away.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t have to mean getting up early on your precious days off to read your Bible, or shutting yourself up away from your family in order to pray.

God is the author and creator of rest. Genesis 2:2-3 tells us: “By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.”

Dedicate Your Vacation Time

Vacations and time off can be more than just a chance to have fun with friends and family or a week to ignore your work. A vacation can be a time to indulge in some God ordained rest.

In the days leading up to your vacation, take the time to dedicate your time away to God.

“God, author and creator of rest, I dedicate this time away to You.

Thank You for the blessing of time off and for creating rhythms of work and rest for us to follow.

I pray You’ll use this time to draw me closer to You, to speak to me and to inspire my thinking.

I ask for You to restore my soul during this vacation. To not only help me rest and relax but to bring me back into wholeness with You.

Amen”

An Easy Prayer Routine For Time Away

While you’re away, try one of these simple tips to create an easy, mindful routine to connect you with God.

Pack A New Book

why not pack a new book written by a Christian author who inspires you? You could choose a biography of how someone came to faith or one filled with incredible stories from mission trips. You could choose a book filled with wisdom by a great Bible teacher or revisit a classic book you’ve read and loved before and ask God to speak to you through it again.

Line Up A Relaxing Playlist

Glorify is filled with different worship playlists. Try choosing a relaxing one and listening to it while you unwind on vacation. Filling the room with worship music is an easy but powerful way to connect your heart to God’s.

Try A Sleep Story

If you haven’t already then why not try falling asleep to one of the Sleep Stories on Glorify? These beautifully narrated stories are atmospheric retellings of Bible stories. You can choose between recordings like the story of Ruth, read by Joel Houston, the story of Nehemiah narrated by Elle Limebear or the sleep story of Joseph voiced by Natalie Braithwaite. The sleep stories range in length, from 20 minutes up to 90 minutes.

Walk With Jesus

If you’re staying somewhere with beautiful views or epic walks along the coast, why not try going for a walk with Jesus. See your walk as a mindfulness exercise and with every step bring your focus to Jesus, speaking to Him as you go.

Your time away can be the perfect opportunity to connect with God on a deeper level. Let Him restore you, heal you and bring you comfort and peace after a stressful season.
