Father’s Day is fast approaching and it can be a tricky time, with many different dynamics of the father/child relationship – some are longing to be fathers, some are struggling as a parent, some are single parents. Read on for some Father's Day prayers that you can say for any of these occasions as well as some Bible verses about fatherhood. We may have a difficult relationship with our dad, or we may have lost them, but we can take comfort in the fact that our Heavenly Father is ever-present and with us through all things. Whatever our feelings as this day approaches, may we take it as a nudge to come to Him to learn more of His perfect love for us. In this blog, we will look a little at the role of the father in the Bible, and also God as our father, and then we will look at some great verses for fathers, followed by some prayers for Father's Day.
Allow yourself to think more widely about this day. The love of a father is a precious thing. Just as the love of our Heavenly Father does for us, the love of an earthly father can instill in us a sense of value and self-worth. Father figures don't have to be biological fathers, they can be men who at different times can play important roles as mentors and friends in our lives. Remember these men too on Father's Day. Now, read on for some top Bible verses that speak about fatherhood in the Bible.
“He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents.” Malachi 4:6 “The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.” Proverbs 23:24 “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” Psalm 127:3-5 “Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26 “He got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 “You saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” Deuteronomy 1:31 “I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4 “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:13 “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.” Proverbs 1:8 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1
Here are some prayers that you can pray on Father’s Day, for dads, near and far, in whatever situation they are in, and for others affected by this day.
God, bless my dad/father figure. Give him the strength to stand, through all the trials, the endurance to keep going after his dreams, and the faith that he would see mountains moved. Give him hope each day of his life. Amen.
God, I pray for the single fathers in this country, that You would strengthen them through Your Holy Spirit, to keep loving as You love, and learn patience as You are patient, to have renewed strength when they feel weary. May they know Your comfort, Father God. Amen.
Lord, we lift up those who long to be fathers, Who are walking the long and lonely road of infertility. Would You safeguard their hearts on this day, and keep their hearts hoping for that miracle of life? Thafnk You that with You, nothing is impossible, so keep the flame of hope alive in them today. Amen.
God, we pray for those who are affected by grief today, That You would be near them at this time. Thank You for the memories which are to be treasured, and for all the seeds that have been planted in their life by their father. Help the legacy of wisdom to grow and to be passed on. Lord, this life is short, and our years go so fast. We remember that You are the only constant in this life. Amen.
Father, thank You that You are a good Father. Reveal Your Father heart to me today; slow to anger and rich in love. Thank You, Father, that You are safety, when I have known fear, that You are kindness where I have known harsh words, and that You are acceptance, where I have known judgment. Amen.
Father God, Teach me how to be a good father to my kids. There are times when I lose my patience with them, Times when I would rather go at my own pace than theirs. There are times when I don’t know what the right decision is. Help me to raise my children in the way that they should go. Help me to know Your guidance in my life. Father, help me to father. Amen. We hope that this blog has blessed you and encouraged you to think about the father figures in your life and how you can encourage and bless them this coming Father’s Day. Remember, a word of encouragement doesn’t cost you anything, and it could be the seed that changes someone else’s life. Check out our other Glorify content on prayers for all sorts of occasions.
