Are you on the journey to finding your authentic self? Join us today as we discover that the journey's end is closer than you think. Let’s begin by reading Colossians 3:1–4: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:1–4 If you’re able, close your eyes for a moment. Take a slow, deep breath. How are you feeling today? Happy, sad, worried, maybe even frustrated? That's okay. Bring your emotions to Jesus. He sees you, truly sees you, with kind eyes that never waver. Mindfully open your heart to His loving embrace. God is here, waiting for you.

Listen to God’s words in Isaiah 54, verse 10: “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” It’s a profound, personal promise. “My unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” (verse 10) God loves you so deeply. He wants to connect with you, here and now. Are you present with Him?
Here’s our thoughtful question for today: How can you discover your authentic self? Social media is awash with people sharing tips and tricks on this very topic. “Finding yourself," "self-discovery,” and “self-realization” trend regularly. There's been so much advice! Meditate daily. Connect with your inner child. Try something new. Journal. Take a personality test. Hike up a mountain. Maybe you’ve tried some of it before.
Whatever your views on the self-discovery bandwagon, there’s unavoidably something in our humanity that makes us obsessed with finding out who we really are. As Jesus followers, it’s a journey we need to engage in too. Because if we don’t know who we are in Christ, someone else will try to tell us. And we’ll end up believing the labels others put on us instead of God’s truth, which has been spoken over us.
The Christian worldview puts a different spin on the journey of finding yourself—one that re-prioritizes the whole process. Theologian C.S. Lewis says this: “Your real, new self…will not come as long as you are looking for it. It will come when you are looking for Him.”

Did you hear the shift in nuance? Instead of hiking, journaling, visualizing or meditating to find ourselves, Lewis suggests we repurpose all of that good energy towards finding Jesus. Because as you pursue Christ, you will discover yourself. Lewis’ views are not random or new. He’s taken them straight from the Bible; from passages like the one we read today. Listen to verse 3 again: “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Do you hear it? If you want to find yourself, you need to go after Christ. Since the moment you became a Christian, your life has been hidden in Him. Your identity is now wrapped up in His.
Put simply, the core message is this: Find Jesus. And you’ll find yourself. Look for Jesus. And you’ll discover who you are. It’s straightforward, but wonderfully profound. So if you take one thing away today, take this: The key to discovering your authentic self is to pursue your relationship with Jesus. The deeper you go with Him; the more you surrender to Him, and the longer you spend with Him, the more you’ll realize who you were born to be.
Let’s close by praying together: Heavenly Father, I want to know you more. Stir my heart to look for you and pursue you today. Help me to set my mind on the things above, not on earthly things. Help me to see Jesus in my day. I know that as soon as I find you, I’ll find myself. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
