What Does God Say About Me?

What Does God Say About Me?

Have you ever noticed how much we care about what others think of us? From the casual comments of friends or coworkers to the deep-rooted, formative words of our families, people’s opinions often shape how we see ourselves. A single compliment can brighten our day, while a harsh word can linger like a shadow, leaving us questioning our value, purpose, and even our identity.

What Does God Say About Me?

Maybe you’ve felt it before—the sting of criticism, the weight of judgement, the pressure of not measuring up. Words can hurt deeply. But here’s the thing: while critical voices might be loud, they do not have the final say. We often forget the voice, which should be the one that truly matters—the voice of our God. The God who made us, who knows us, who saved us and who speaks over us every day. What does God say about you as a Christian? That's a question worth asking because His answer defines who you are. So, let’s pause for a moment, tune out the noise, and dive into five powerful truths from scripture that reveal our true identity in Christ. These powerful declarations help us stand firm against the shifting opinions of the world.

1. You Are Made in God’s Image

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."(Genesis 1:27) Before anything else, your story begins here. Not in criticisms, not in the labels others impose, but in the image of God. You are not an accident or a mistake. God made you with purpose, fearfully and wonderfully crafted with divine intention. This truth means that your worth does not depend on the standards set by others. When God looks at you, He sees His own reflection—good, valuable, and worthy of love. No failure or flaw can erase the image of God within you.]

2. You Are Chosen and Loved

"In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will." (Ephesians 1:4-5) There’s something profound about being chosen. It feels like being wanted, seen, and picked out. Before you even thought about seeking God, He had already chosen you—not because of your achievements, but because He loves you. Through Christ, you belong in His family—fully accepted, fully known, fully loved. God’s love doesn’t depend on our performance; it rests securely in His will. You are His, and nothing changes that.

3. You Are Redeemed and Forgiven

"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:13-14) We all carry the weight of past mistakes and regrets. But in Christ, those burdens fall away. You are not your past; Christ’s redemption defines you. Through His sacrifice, He forgives your sins—fully, completely, and forever. God doesn’t hold grudges or keep a record of wrongs. Instead, He welcomes you with grace, cleansing every stain. When the world tries to define you by failures, God calls you redeemed.

4. You Are a New Creation

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."(2 Corinthians 5:17) Old habits, fears, and identities often cling to us, whispering that we can’t change. But God says otherwise. In Christ, you are not merely improved—you are brand new. The old you, with all its flaws and failures, died with Christ, and you now walk in newness of life. This transformation doesn’t simply change behaviour; it completely renews who you are. You are no longer defined by the old but by the new life Christ has purchased for you.

5. You Are More Than a Conqueror

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:37–39) Life often feels like a battle, and sometimes it seems we’re losing. But God’s truth tells a different story. You are not defeated. You are not overcome. Through Christ, you stand as more than a conqueror. This promise doesn’t guarantee an easy life, but is a reminder that nothing can separate you from God’s love. The battles you face do not define you; Christ’s victory does.

Refocusing on God’s Voice

So here’s the challenge: whose voice are you listening to? The world’s? Your inner critic? Or the voice of the One who formed you, redeemed you, and calls you His own? The world will always have something to say, and people will always have opinions. But God’s word remains unchanging. You are made in His image, chosen, loved, forgiven, renewed, and victorious. Let that truth sink in. Allow it to shape how you see yourself, how you live, and how you respond to the voices around you. You are not what others say. You are who God says you are. So, the next time the words of the world weigh you down, remember your true identity in Christ. Lift your eyes, tune into the voice that truly matters, and let God’s truth define your worth. You are His, and that is always enough.
