Bible Verses For Thanksgiving

Bible Verses For Thanksgiving

Here are seven Bible verses for Thanksgiving to inspire and direct your worship.

1. Give Thanks For His Love

God's love is constant and present. It is as real today as it was thousands of years ago. He is a good Father, the one we can call Abba, intimate and close. His breathtaking, rich and perfect love leads me to thank Him that He loves me.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind. Psalm 107:15

There have been times when I felt far away from Him, especially when I had messed up or gone my own way. Yet, even when I thought He was angry with me, as soon as I turned to Him I encountered His immeasurable love. That love saved me, welcomed me and restored me. In what ways has God shown His love to you?

2. Give Thanks For His Provision

Throughout the ages, God has delivered His people. He has led them through various trials and tribulations since the earliest beginnings of the Israelite nation. As a result, many Biblical accounts describe people expressing gratitude to God for protecting them during difficult times. As a result, their faith grew, and they began to pray with expectations for the future.

Do not be anxious about anything, but by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

We don't have to think long to come up with our own stories of how God has carried us through difficult times. He has provided for me again and again. I was alone and He brought people in my life. When I was broke, He somehow provided me enough to get by. There have been times when I’ve been afraid, uncertain and insecure. In those times He provided hope and peace. He wants to hear our response and recognize that He, and no one else, is our Provider. How has God provided for you?

3. Give Thanks For His Forgiveness

King David and the disciple Peter are two examples in the Bible of men who were impacted by their sinful choices and later received the forgiveness of God. Both were profoundly changed in the process. Others join with them in Scripture to express thanks for such amazing grace.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits - who forgives all your sins. Psalm 103:2-3

Many times in my life, I have been thankful for His forgiveness. I’m still astounded that He has never stopped loving me or surrounding me and filling me with His presence. I would have given up on me a long time ago, but He has never given up on me. What are you thankful that God has forgiven you for?

4. Give Thanks For His Creation

God created the earth for His pleasure and ours and took great care in the process of making it.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

He formed the spinning stars out of nothing and set them in place. He crafted the great whale, the tiny mouse and the wonderful platypus. Amazingly, we are still discovering new and wonderful creatures that the Father gave life too. He gives the sunsets their beauty and the night sky its' wonder. You and I get the joy of living in the divine Master's handiwork. What a privilege that is! Countless times I have stared across the ocean or lost myself in the beauty of a sun drenched wood. What is your favorite part of creation?

5. Give Thanks For His People

The Apostle Paul frequently expressed gratitude to his fellow Christians for their encouragement and support. He realized that God was ministering to him through those believers while allowing them to experience the joy of serving the Lord. The feeling of the community's power prompted him to praise.

We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 1 Thessalonians 1:2

God's plan for His people included the church. Most of us who belong to a local church family agree that fellowship provides comfort and strength. We are given opportunities to serve and help one another grow closer to our Lord. The sound of thanksgiving from a congregation is pleasing to God. How have other Christians made a difference in your life?

6. Give Thanks For His Plan For Us

The Apostle Paul stated numerous times that God has set Christ's followers apart. He taught that believers have the privilege and the responsibility of growing in holiness and participating in the Lord's work. Paul also mentions God's plan for us to share blessings from what Jesus did on the cross, including a victory over the enemy, restoration with God and an eternal Kingdom to enjoy.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

How does knowing God has a plan for you encourage you?

7. Give Thanks For The Bible

God used the words of the Bible to change minds and hearts and inspire gratitude in those that hear it.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105

Today, much of the world is immensely blessed to have access to the whole Bible. On any given day, we can be impacted by the life-renewing power within its pages.
