As we care for, nourish and invest in our children and husbands we are stepping into a cohesive, complementary partnership. Family was made to nurture mums too!

The early years of motherhood can feel like such a whirlwind. Amongst the busyness and exhaustion these two verses places an emphasis on our responsibility to raise our kids with their future and, importantly, their eternal future, in mind. Mums and Dads, we are called to educate and disciple our children, not to delegate the responsibility. This can feel like an enormous, impossible task but thankfully Bible verses like this remind us that God is with us and will give us everything we need to raise our children well.

We donât get to hear much about Mosesâ mother, Jochebed. But, what we do know is pretty amazing.
She gave birth to Moses while her people suffered under an oppressive, dangerous regime. To ensure her sonâs survival she bravely hid him for three months (what skill that must have taken, to hide a loud, newborn baby). When she couldnât keep him hidden any longer she put all her trust in God and put her precious son into a basket and sent him floating down the Nile river.
We all know how the story continues, that precious baby grows up to save a nation.
Mosesâ story, of a boy who grows up to save a people, is mirrored by Jesus himself years later.
How incredible that one motherâs bravery and breathtaking trust in God meant the survival of Godâs people.
Youâd be forgiven for not even realising there are women called Lois and Eunice in the Bible. One verse in Timothy refers to these two women and shows us how amazing they must have been.
Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1: 3-5
"...I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.â
Timothy grew up to be a foundational part of the early church and the spreading of the good news around the world. Here we learn that Paul credits Timothyâs amazing faith with his upbringing, specifically, his mum and grandmother. How many mums need this timely reminder that everything they do has a lasting impact. Every time a mum plucks up the energy to pray with her child, or works hard to teach her kids about who Jesus is, she is playing an incredible part in the most amazing of legacies.
Motherhood can be incredibly difficult. From the broken sleep and overwhelming task of looking after a baby, to the strain of the mental load and huge identity crisis it can trigger. Mums have a lot on their plates!
Staying connected to God on even the toughest days as a mum can provide endless strength, comfort and wisdom when you need it most.

Psalm 46: 1-3 âGod is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.â
Psalm 37: 3-4 âTrust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.â
Philippians 4: 6-7 âDo not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.â
One of the Ten Commandments âhonor your father and motherâ makes is pretty clear that we are meant to respect and appreciate our parents.
Throughout his ministry Jesus made sure to include and honour women, a highly counter-cultural and controversial move.
There are also multiple stories of God blessing and working through women and mothers in the Bible. Think of Esther, saving a whole nation through bravely facing the King. Or Ruthâs loyalty to her mother-in-law.

So, when you feel like you canât do it alone or youâre at the end of your patience, remember, God has all you need to be the most gracious, compassionate mum, possible. You just need Him!
