One of the great promises of Scripture is that Godâs presence is with us. The Bible reminds us, time and time again, that God is always with us. From the very beginning of Genesis through to the end of Revelation, God's word extends to us comforting promises that remind us of His faithfulness. They tell us that God desires to be close to us. He desires to walk with us and He promises that He will never leave us.
In the times when we feel most distant from God, we can return to the Bible and read through the great promises that God gives us. When we feel most hopeless, we can rest in the promises of Scripture. For these promises remind us of the great news that God is with us at all times. It means that He is with us in the good times; when we feel His presence and when we trust most fully. But it also means that He is with us in times that are more challenging, when we most feel like giving up. In this blog we'll explore some of the key Bible verses that tell us that God is always with us. As you read through these verses, allow God to remind you afresh that He is always with you. And allow Him to extend His promise to you again that He will never leave you nor forsake you.
We see God with mankind right at the beginning of the Bible. We are told in Genesis 3 that God physically walked in the Garden of Eden. While we may not have this physical presence beside us today, His spiritual presence is promised on many occasions throughout the Old Testament. God reminds His people time and time again that He is always with them, through every circumstance and every season. Here are a few examples: Isaiah 41:10: âSo do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.â Joshua 1:9: âHave I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.â Psalm 23:4: âEven though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.â Deuteronomy 31:6: âBe strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.â In these Old Testament Bible verses we see that God promises to be with us at all times. He promises to be with us as our strength and as our help. He is with us wherever we go and within whichever circumstance we find ourselves. Even when we are in the midst of the deepest and most challenging of trials, even death itself, God is with us through it all. By resting and meditating upon these Scriptures, we can be confident that God accompanies us at all times and that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
As we turn from the Old Testament into the New Testament, the promise of God being with us continues. The New Testament reminds us regularly of Godâs faithfulness and of His unrelenting love for each of us. Through the person of Jesus we can be confident that God is with us at all times. Here are a few examples: Matthew 28:20: âAnd surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.â Romans 8:38-39: âFor I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.â Matthew 1:23: âThe virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuelâ (which means âGod with usâ).â Throughout the New Testament, we are reassured that God is with us. Jesus came to earth physically; He became fully man and walked the path we all walk so that He could pay the ultimate price for our sins. He rose from the grave and ascended to heaven but He didn't leave us alone. Rather, He continues to be with us every day through His Holy Spirit. He is always accompanying us and walking with us through every season of life. Paul even goes further and says that there is nothing in all of creation that can separate us from God. We are united with Him.
When it comes to your life and your personal walk with God, you can know that God extends these promises to you today. God desires that you know His nearness and that you walk aware of His presence with you. When Jesus came to earth, God gave Him the name âImmanuelâ, which means âGod with usâ. Jesus came to show us once and for all that God is not embarrassed by our mess. He is not put off by our sin, or uninterested in our lives. He is a God who loves us deeply, who wants to be involved in our lives, and who desires to walk for all eternity in relationship with His creation. Know today that God is with you. Even when you feel like God is absent or far away, He is with you, walking alongside you and holding you in His arms. As we know from these Bible verses, He is the God who came near, physically and spiritually. Our God took up residency within the mess of humanity, to show us that He loves us eternally. He will always be there for us, through every situation and in every season. Photos by Mourad Saadi on Unsplash
