Have you ever stopped to think about how many Bible verses there are about light? Find out why Jesus light is so important for us to receive today.

Bible Verses about the power of light in the Bible

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:3

In the story of Genesis, God first created light. And from this first declaration, creation was born. Light has multiple meanings in scripture, but no verse is more important than this one in Genesis. God Himself is not only the origin of all goodness; He also sustains His creation through His light. There is no darkness, sin, or imperfection in Him whatsoever. He is perfect.

“God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5

The Role of Jesus as the Light of the World

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5

“‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.'” John 8:12

In parallel with the verse in Genesis 1, John reminds us that Jesus, who was present at the formation of the world, is the light of the world too. Clothed in humanity, He came to earth as the light of the world to usher in the Kingdom of God and to offer everyone who believes in Him the opportunity of eternal life.

“I have come into the world as light.” John 12:46

“Arise, shine, for your light has come” Isaiah 60:1

Jesus Light as a Guide and Pathway

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? ” Psalm 27:1

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

Here, the Psalmist reminds us of God’s eternal commitment to guide and direct us in the course of our lives. He is with us during our daily decisions (a lamp to our feet) as well as the bigger decisions we face (a light to my path).
Though we may not always see Him at work, if we commit to regular prayer, Bible reading, and application, we can be confident that He knows how to speak our language. If you’re struggling to see God as work in your life, simply commit to these basic practises and trust Him to guide you when you need it.
Keep an open heart, pray with a pastor of good Christian friend and relax in His ability to guide anyone who seeks Him sincerely.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light” Isaiah 9:2

Reflecting God’s Light in Our Actions and Relationships

“Let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light.” Romans 13:12

“Walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8

We have a responsibility as Christ-followers to actively live in the light of Jesus love. This means choosing to do what is right and good in God’s sight and resisting evil. As we do so, we can be sure that He will demonstrate His love for others in the way that we live. What an awesome privilege!

“..proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

“In your light do we see light.” Psalm 36:9

Overcoming Darkness and Embracing the Light

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” Colossians 1:12:

“For you are all children of light, children of the day.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5

Jesus life gives us the power to resist the temptation of sin and live in the light of God’s love. By His Holy Spirit, we have the power to live as light-bearers, just as Christ was. We can live the life that He originally designed for us.

“So that they may turn from darkness to light” Acts 26:18

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

Let Your Light Shine: Spreading God’s Radiance

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father” Matthew 5:16

Jesus invitation is for us to live as the “light of the world” in much the same way as He did. Because His light lives within us, we can demonstrate, in thousands of ways, the light of Christ within us. As he changes us, we can make a positive difference in the world around us. Pray for an opportunity to be a light-bearer for Jesus today.

“That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.” Philipians 2:15

God will be our Light

“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” Revelation 21:23

“And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 22:5

At the end of days, we will live with our Lord in Heaven, forever living under His loving rule and just Kingdom. There will be no more tears or pain, no more suffering or disease. God will be our light, a light so great and perfect that there will be no need for any celestial bodies.

This is a beautiful and powerful promise for us to hold onto today. Whatever life throws at you, it is temporary! You have an eternal future with a perfect and ever loving Father God.
